CM for collective fight to root out drug menace

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that the people must fight collectively to root out the drug menace from the State.
This was stated by him at an award distribution ceremony in connection with seizure of drugs by Manipur Police which was held at the Banquet Hall of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Chief Minister N Biren said that the drug menace will have an adverse effect on the present and future generation.
In the last two years, 965 people have been arrested in connection with drug cases in the State, he said mentioning that unlike the previous regime, various CSOs and local clubs have started approaching the present Government to conduct crackdown on the illicit drug business in different areas of the State.
Police-public relationship needs to be strengthened and regular interactive programs should be held between the Police and public.
He expressed that the Government will reward employees for their good deed but on the other hand, they will also face punishment for bad deeds.
Mentioning some of the initiatives of the Government in the last two years, the CM stated that the trust deficit between the hills and valley has been minimized, good governance has been delivered at the grassroots, a good relationship between the public and Government has been maintained by introducing various initiatives like Meeyamgi Numit, Hill Leaders' Day, Go to Hills, Go to Village mission etc.
The law and order situation has improved and normalcy has returned, he said adding that since its inception, the present Government has been focusing on 'mission oriented' programmes and schemes for the welfare of the people.
Biren expressed that the objective of a Government is to deliver good governance and fulfil the aspirations and wishes of the people of the State.
There should be a healthy relationship between the Government and its people, he added.
The CM stated that the Government has begun a survey in areas where minority communities reside, like Lilong, Mayang Imphal etc, to find out the root causes of drug peddling, drug addicts, the livelihood and living conditions etc.
Due to lack of alternative livelihood, issues like illegal drug business and drug peddling are rampant in these areas, he added.
Biren said that, till now, around 2500 families which are economically weak and poor have been identified and CMHT and PMJAY cards have been given to those family members.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister handed over the Chief Minister's Commendation Certificates and Incentive Awards to 59 police officers and personnel.
A short video on the activities and achievements of Manipur Police on 'War against Drugs' was also screened during the function.
Minister for Forest and Environment Th Shyamkumar, Minister for Revenue Karam Shyam, Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board L Radhakishore, Deputy Chairman State Planning Board S Rajen, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP and top civil and police officials attended the function.
