The Komren Union has expressed shock and termed unfortunate on the inclusion of Kom Tribe in the recently unveiled monolith, depicting the 11th Naga Tribes of Chandel district on December 6 .
A release issued by Komren Union stated that Kom people never have discussed or talked about joining Naga and reaffirmed the stance of Kom people for peaceful co-existence and neutrality as the Kom always regard all communities of Manipur as from the same family and origin, who will always have a shared future.
Komren Union continued that, the Kom people always prioritising diplomacy, peace and stability over fighting's hostilities and conflicts, takes the inclusion of Kom as Naga in the monolith is nothing but a shock tactics and to undermine the Kom people's stance for peaceful co-existence and firm stand to protect its distinct identity.
The Union appealed to the UNC and NPO of Chandel to respect the self-determination right of the Kom people to remain neutral and to delist Kom from the list of Naga tribes in order to continue their good relationship as brothers and sisters and avoid misunderstanding between Kom people and Nagas.
The Komrem Union further warned all the organisations which were formed in the name of Kom to not do anything and make statements against Kom people's stance for peaceful co-existence.
The Union also appealed to the Government of India and Manipur to intervene and do the needful to enable the Kom community to protect their right to self-determination, so as to preserve and protect their distinct identity and stance for peaceful co-existence.
