MUSU threatens to boycott Inter College Youth Fest' 15

Imphal, November 15 2015: Manipur University Student's Union (MUSU) has threatened to boycott this year's Inter College Youth Festival if it is not made a body sanctioned by the Manipur University Act 2005 .

Speaking to media persons MUSU president S David said a written appeal was submitted to the Vice Chancellor on September 29 urging the same to make the union a body sanctioned by the MU Act, 2005.The union was directed to approach the Dean of Students' Welfare in reply to their appeal.

On October 26, the union met the Dean of Students' Welfare wherein paperworks relating to their demand were submitted.

Following the MU authority's alleged indifference to their demand MUSU had staged a sit-in-protest on November 6 inside the University campus voicing their demand.

Mention may be made, MUSU was revived after five years of suspension in 2014.Since then the resurgent MUSU has been treated as a students' council under the MU Act 2005 and not as a union.

In such situation, the VC has the power to dissolve MUSU anytime.

Demanding recognition of the union as a body sanctioned by the MU Act 2005, David said MUSU would boycott the upcoming Inter College Youth Festival (from November 18-20) if MU authorities fail to address their demand by November 17 .

Calling for support, the president also urged college students not to attend this year's Youth festival.
