Imphal, November 15 2010:
To press the demand for reintroduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) System in Manipur, Federation of Regional Indigenious Society (FREINDS) would be observing Permit System Deprivation Day on November 18 .
Announcing this during a press conference at its Keishampat Keisham Leikai office today, FREINDS president Sapamcha Jadumani pointed out that it was on November 18, 1950 that Inner Line Permit system has been lifted from Manipur.
Since then, there has been no let up to influx of outsiders whose number has today become one third of the total population of indigenous people.
Asserting that these outsiders have given a serious impact on the socio economic condition of the State, Jadumani said that the price of essential commodities in Manipur are today even being decided by these outsiders.
The day may not be far when the indigenous people of Manipur would be outnumbered by the outsiders, he added.
He explained that the demand for reintroduction of Inner Line Permit system does not meant prevention of outsiders coming to Manipur but controlling and monitoring their entry.
He also appealed to the people for support to the demand for reintroduction of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur.
