Workshop on "Health Sector Psychological Care in Disaster Management" kicks off

A 5-days training workshop on "Health Sector Psychological Gare in Disaster Management" began today at Hotel Yaiphaba, Thangal Bazar.
The workshop was jointly organised by Central Sector Scheme- EMR Disaster Management Cell, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, National Mental Health Program SHS NHM Manipur and Directorate of Health Services.
The inaugural function was graced by Dr O Sanahanbi, Director, Health Services, Manipur; Dr Chambo Gonmei, Additional Director, Public Health, Manipur; and Dr Sanjeev Kumar Manikappa, Principal Investigator, Department of Psychosocial Support in Disaster Management, NIMHANS, Bengaluru as presidium members.
The function began with a welcome address delivered by Dr A Ranita Devi, State Nodal Officer, National Mental Health Program, Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr O Sanahanbi said that people in countries facing disasters can experience a range of mental health issues such as psychological distress, acute stress reactions, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety.
She also asserted that providing .
psychosocial care should be a priority for the Government as the burden of mental disorders among disaster-affected populations is extremely high.
