COVID-19: Anganwadi workers deliver cooked foods

Imphal, April 14 2020:
Social Welfare Department has started distributing hot cooked meal items in the form of 'Take Home Ration' through home visits by Anganwadi Workers so as to ensure that the beneficiaries are not deprived of nutritional foods distributed under Supplementary Nutrition Programme during the present total lockdown, claimed Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen.
It may be mentioned that under Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), the Department of Social Welfare, has been distributing hot cooked meals under Supplementary Nutrition Programme to eligible beneficiaries viz.
6 months to 6 years old children, pregnant women and lactating mothers as per the guidelines laid down by the Ministry of Women & Child Development.
Nemcha stated that as part of precautionary measures take up to contain/prevent the possible spread of COVID-19 and the advisory issued by the Ministry of Health, as well as by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, all Anganwadi Centres have remained closed since March 20.Nemcha Kipgen lauded all Anganwadi functionaries viz; District Programme Officers, Child Development Project Officers, Supervisors, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers for their selfless dedication in discharging their duties at this point of time.
She also stated that they have been directed to wear masks, gloves and maintain social distance during the distribution.
During the distribution of cooked food items, geo-tagged photographs and videos are also taken, she added.
She further informed that distribution of cooked food items has been going on in almost all the districts namely; Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Chandel, Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Kangpokpi and Noney.
The remaining districts will be covered at the earliest, she added.
