Nongmaithem Tombi condoled

The Critics Forum Manipur, Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipuri Department, Manipur University, Cultural Forum Manipur and Thoubal Writer's Association have extended heartfelt condolences upon the passing of notable scholar and literary critic Professor Nongmaithem Tombi Singh, popularly known as Nongmai Pandit on March 12 .
In a press release, PAWF Manipur stated that Professor N Tombi was also a noted cultural activist who made significant contributions in the promotion of Manipuri language, script and culture.
Paying homage to the deceased scholar, Critics Forum Manipur said that Professor N Tombi founded the Forum in 2005 .
Forum members observed a two-minute silence for the departed soul to rest in peace, said a press note.
A condolence meeting was held at the Manipuri Department of MU to grieve the passing of N Tombi who served in the Department for a significant period.
Teachers, staff and students of the Department and Narayan, president, Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) observed a two-minute silence in his honour.
Cultural Forum Manipur and Thoubal Writer's Association also conducted condolence meetings separately at their respective offices to mourn the demise of N Tombi.
At the Thoubal Writer's Association condolence meeting, the gathering maintained a two-minute silence and recalled the contributions of the renowned critic during his lifetime as well as his role in promoting new and budding authors from the district.
Terming his death as a great loss to the State, all the aforementioned organisations have expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
