12 shops reduced to cinders

Jiribam, February 13 2020: Altogether 12 shops were reduced to cinders by an inferno at Bhutangkhal Bazar of Barak Circle, about 23 Kms away from Jiribam Bazar at around 4.30 am today.

It is said that goods worth around Rs 15 lakh were destroyed by the inferno.

Even though Jiribam Fire Service was informed about the inferno, fire tenders could reach Bhutangkhal Bazar only after the fire had died out as the road leading to it is extremely bad.

It is not yet clear what sparked the inferno.

Jiribam AC MLA Md Ashab Uddin came to the devastated site and gave 20 GI sheets each to the owners of the shops razed by the inferno.

Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited Vice Chairman K Sarat Kumar Singh too provided rice, dal and blankets to the victims of the inferno.

Meanwhile Borobekra Development Organisation chairman P Jiten has urged the State Government to open a fire service office in Barak Circle.
