Elderly patient treated successfully with EPS+RFA

Imphal, September 12 2024:
A 76 years old man suffering from Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia (PSVT) has been treated successfully at Sky Hospital & Research Centre Pvt Ltd with EPS-RFA.
According to a release issued by Sky Hospital, the patient Jadop, a resident of Kairang Maning Leikai, Imphal East District, had been suffering from very frequent episodes of sever palpitation since 6-7 years.
The frequency of palpitation increased more recently and duration of each palpitation were getting longer when it occurred.
The nature of his palpitation was recorded on the ECG as PSVT.
Notably, the first episode of PSVT commonly occurs between the age of 13 to 30 years.
Consequence due to PSVT is likely to be more serious in patients older than 60 years of age.
After years discomfort due to recurrent PSVT, the patient came to Sky Hospital, Imphal West on August 20, 2024 .
In view of his recurrent episodes of PSVT, he was advised to undergo the EPS+RFA.
The EPS involves mapping the electrical activity of the heart to pin-point the source of the PSVT.
After the source is identified, the accessory pathway/extra tissue is to be destroyed/ablated by Radio Frequency Abaltor (RFA).
Jadop's EPS+RFA started at 2.00 pm and completed successfully at 5.45pm on August 29, 2024.Immediately after the successful EPS+RFA, the anti-arrhythmia drugs were stopped.
He was carefully monitored and observed on the ward/ICE.
After his PSVT was declared cure, the patient was discharged on August 31, 2024.He was brought for first follow up in the OPD on September 7, 2024 where he was perfectly well, ECG showing sinus rhythm with no further episodes of palpitation after discharge from Sky Hospital.
Dr L Shyamkishore Singh, Chief Cardiologist of Sky Hospital, expressed his happiness on the successfully conducted EPS+RFA at the hospital.
