Bishnupur, February 12 2025:
Even though the State Government has launched "School Fagat Hansi Mission" to provide better education in Government schools, the Upper Primary School of Saiton No 1 located at Phougakchao Ikhai under Kumbi Assembly Constituency, Bishnupur district does not have a single teacher.
Established in the year 1963, the Upper Primary School is among one of the oldest schools in the State.
With a total strength of 40 students, the school is being run by the School Management Committee convenor Kh Basantakumar along with other 2 members who have been teaching the school students.
The school having 40 students from Class I to III lacks all basic infrastructure and is outdated.
The students have also not received uniforms and other related educational items from the Government.
As per the norms of the Government, the school must have at least 10 to 15 teachers, but due to lack of teachers the SMC members are tending to the students' needs while also teaching classes, stated Kh Basantakumar.
"Before the violence erupted, there was a teacher in the school from another community, but due to the violence that erupted in May, 2023, the teacher left.
Since then, the school has been running without any teachers," said Kh Basantakumar.
He continued that the members of the SMC have been looking after the students since the violence erupted to save the career of the students as most of them belong to poor families who cannot afford to send their children to private schools.
He further stated that the committee has raised the issue several times to the concerned ZEO, but till today no teacher has been sent.
He also urged the authorities concerned to complete the construction of the school building at the earliest in the interest of the students.
