Combined team destroy poppy plantation in Ukhrul, Kamjong, Senapati

Ukhrul, December 11 2020:
The district police Ukhrul has stated that poppy cultivated at about 1,000 acres of land in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts and worth about Rs 100 crore in the international market has been destroyed in two phases in 2020 .
According to police, at least 10 kg of opium is yielded from an acre of poppy crops.
In the first phase which began from November 26, poppy plants grown in 450 acres of land on the hill ranges of Sikipung and Thawai Kuki under Kamjong district were destroyed while the remaining 550 acres of poppy plants were destroyed in the second phase from the hill ranges of Shongphel, Lamlai Chingkhai, Molnum.
Today, SP Ukhrul, Worngam Ningshen along with a team of Ukhrul media persons visited Lamlai Chingphai hill range and destroyed poppy plants grown in over 100 acres of land.
According to the SP, over 150 persons were camped in between Molnum and Shongphel villages for five days.
The drive was a part of the Manipur government's "War on Drugs" campaign.
Addl SP Ringthing stated that the poppy destruction drive programme will continue in different locations in a phased manner.
The poppy plant destruction drives at Songphel, Molnum, Lamlai Chingphai areas of Ukhrul district were carried out by a combined team of Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB), NAB, Manipur police, Manipur Rifles, and Forest department.
Senapati
Meanwhile, a joint team of Senapati district police, NAB, Forest Department of Senapati and Kangpokpi, SDC, Kangpokpi under the supervision of SP Senapati conducted poppy plant destruction drive on December 10 & 11 at Kuki Taphou hill range.
The drive was led by Addl SP (L/O) Senapati, SDC Kangpokpi and OC Senapati Police Station.
About 140 acres of land growing poppy plants were destroyed in the two days.
An FIR has also been taken up at Senapati Police Station in this regard, conveyed Senapati police.
