CCPur/Kakching/Senapati, June 11 2024: The Centre's Inter-Ministerial team, including officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, visited Churachandpur, Kakching and Senapati districts to assess the damage caused by of Cyclone Remal.

Churachandpur

The team, which comprises key figures such as Additional Advisor, DoDW Dr Rajashekharan; Under-Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) Rajiv Rana; AD, DOE Mahendra Chandrella; Junior Scientific Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare (DA&FW) MoA&FW Srinivasa Murthy R and Churachandpur District Coordinator Mk Riyazul Haque, conducted a thorough evaluation of the damages caused by the recent heavy rainfall, hailstorm and floods.

During their visit to the district, the team was briefed by Thangboi Gangte ADC on the extent of destruction in a meeting held at the Conference Hall, Mini-Secretariat.

The meeting was also attended by district-level officers who provided insights into the situation on the ground.

The team's field inquiry included visits to several affected areas such as Buallian village, D Leikot Village, Hill Town under Churachandpur Sub-Division, and Tuinom Khopi and Laijang village under Tuibong Sub-Division.

To understand the actual impact of the extreme weather events and to determine the necessary relief measures for the communities affected, the team interacted with the affected persons on the ground.

They were accompanied by Dharun Kumar S, Deputy Commissioner Chura chandpur; Thangboi Gangte ADC and SDOs of Churachandpur, Tuibong and Singngat, along with subordinate staff.

It may be noted that Cyclone Remal had an adverse impact on Churachandpur district, affecting 169 villages with 2744 houses damaged and 21 hectares of crop areas destroyed.

The loss of two lives and 127 animals has added to the tragedy faced by the residents.

The inter-ministerial team's assessment will play a crucial role in formulating a response plan to aid in the recovery and rebuilding efforts in Churachandpur district.

Kakching

Consequent upon the heavy rain along with hailstorm which took place in the State on May 5, a four (4) member Central Team namely, Dr Jintu Das (DA & FW); Dr Shivcharan Meena (Niti Ayog); Priya Jacob and Dr Deogarh visited Kakching District and had a brief interaction with Kakching DC Rohit Anand and his team of ADM, M Kapajit Singh; SDO Kakching, M Ingocha Singh; SDO Waikhong T Millikan Singh at the DC Office's NIC Hall, Kakching, followed by a field visit to the various affected sites of the district.

The Central Team also interacted with the affected people at the site.

Senapati

Meanwhile, the Centre's Ministerial team arrived today at Senapati and took assessment of damage caused by hailstorm and flooding due to Cyclone Remal in the district.

Prior to moving to the inspection area, the team were briefed thoroughly about the situation in the district by Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, IAS.

Accordingly, the team inspected and visited the various locations at Karong sub-division area, Vakho agricultural land affected site, Vakho footbridge site, Yaopao colony and PHED water pipeline damaged site at Taphou Naga.

The team comprised of Dr Yogita Rana, Joint Secretary DA & FW, Dr Jintu Das DA & FW, Dr Shivcharan Meena Niti Ayog, Mukunda Muthi Ram and Pawan Sharma and they were accompanied by Senapati DC and Sheveine, AC to DC Senapati in the presence of MH Khan, Special Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur for taking assessment of the damaged area.
