Imphal, March 11 2015: The Tangkhul community of Ringui village, Ukhrul district today celebrated its annual festival Rigui Luira Phanit with grandeur.

Director of ICAR Shillong SV Ngachan Francis, Sr Manager of Bank of Baroda JA Shimray and Alan Vashum attended the festival as the chief guest and guests of honour respectively.

Rigui village headman Atem A Shimray and DDK Imphal programme executive Assurance Raikhan were also present at the inaugural session of the festival.

The festival marks the beginning of a new season.

As per the Ringui village's custom, the annual seeding of crops begins after the village headman passes his consent for crop plantation.

The village headman would then inaugurate the Ringui Luira Phanit festival by offering a formal prayer to God and the lighting of a lamp for protection of its people.

DDK Imphal Prog Executive Assurance Raikhan unveiled the memorial stone of the festival today.

The three day long festival would showcase cultural dance, songs and wrestling side by side with entertainment programmes like treasure hunt as a part of the celebration.
