Public meeting held

The JAC against the suspicious death of Y Geetarani Devi held a public meeting at Thoubal Kiyam Tangjeng today, our correspondent reports.
MLA K Meghachandra and various other civil organisation namely UCM, ICHAL, UPF, Nupi Samaj, KWWA, Thoubal District United Women Development Association, KHUKANPAL, Tamichingmi Apunba Nupi Lup, AMKIL, WiNG, DESAM and KSO, attended the public meeting held here today.
Speakers in today's public meeting while strongly condemning every form of crime against women, expressed strong disappointment with the way the State police is handling the case.
MLA Meghachandra, during his speech said Ashok Kom (Geetarani's husband and the main accused of the case), if found guilty would be punished according to the law of the land.
"I will contribute everything in my power to bring him before the Court of law if he is found guilty as charged" .
The MLA has further called for mass support from the people to help deliver justice for the deceased.
The public meeting concluded with the decision to demand interrogation of Ashok's family, to necessitate immediate submission of charge-sheet to the Police Department concerned regarding the case, punishment of the accused and to make available one copy of the post-mortem report to the people.
The meeting also decided to stage various forms of protest in hand with civil organisations in case the State fails to deliver the said demands till February 13 .
Mention may be made that Geetarani hanged herself to death on February 7 at around 6.30 am at the residence of her husband, Talen Ashok Kom, a rifleman of 3rd IRB Battalion.
Ashok would be questioned at the CJM Thoubal Court tomorrow concerning the case.
