Imphal, November 10 2024:
A book release function of the book "Kabui Custom 1947" was held at Keishamthong Kabui Community Hall, Imphal on Sunday.
It was attended by Dr Amor Remmei, vice president, Keishamthong Kabui Youths' Union; Ajin Kamei, president, Keishamthong Kabui Women's Society; Raj Golmei, president, Keishamthong Kabui Development Committee and Star Kamei, editor of the book as presidium members, said a release.
Speaking on the occasion, Star Kamei highlighted the historical background df the Kabui custom stating that the customary practices of the Kabuis have been surviving from time immemorial, observed with reverence by the community in all the Kabui villages, without any written authoritative account of ritual canons.
"However, true to the popular saying of 'Different strokes for different folks' there had come a time when the practice of traditional rites and rituals were coloured by local variations in many of the Kabui villages, thereby resulting in an issue of sorts.
The phenomenon ultimately compelled the Kabui Naga Association to call a meeting of the insightfill elderly Kabui people with long visions", he added.
He shared that a number of resolutions were adopted in the meeting which was held for three days from February 22 to 24, 1947 at Keishamthong Kabui Khul, Imphal West district.
"We obviously need to know about yesterday so as to know about today.
Propelled by this belief.
I ventured into compiling this document, which is also acclaimed to be the first ever written record within the Kabui tribe, thanks to the pioneering efforts of our forefathers", he added.
"My humble desire is to let the public have an access to this valuable document of public interest, though a thin volume in itself has enabled me to publish it today with ISBN (International Standard Book Number) which is nothing short of a dream come true for me", said Star Kamei.
