Imphal, October 10 2019:
The JAC which was constituted in connection with the mysterious death of N Babysana, organised a public meeting for all the clubs, Meira Paibi organisations of Thangmeiband as well as numerous women organisations of the State, at THAU ground yesterday.
A statement issued by the convenor of the JAC today mentioned that during the meeting, it was resolved that the JAC will intensify its agitation as the State Government has failed to heed any of the demands raised by it.
The meeting also resolved to set a deadline of 5 days (from yesterday) for the Government to genuinely hand over the case to the CBI failing which, a 24 hour complete shutdown of Thangmeiband will be imposed from 6 am of October 14 to 6 am of October 15 .
All the associations which took part in the meeting resolved to support the steps taken up by the JAC, it added.
On the other hand, the JAC lamented that even though it has been demanding the SIT which was formed to investigate the death, to be disbanded as no positive results have been seen, no such steps have been taken up by the Government till date.
Alleging that the Government is taking sides with the school authority, the JAC accused the State mechanism of attempting to instead divert the case in the wrong direction.
Expressing concern that the wrong statements and claims might mislead the CBI, the JAC conveyed that as the post mortem report has mentioned possibility of sexual assault, the need of the hour is to launch an investigation into this aspect as well.
Claiming that the Government seems to think that the people might lose momentum, the JAC reiterated that it will not back off until and unless justice is served.
Instead, the JAC will intensify its movement with help from the people, it cautioned.
