Imphal, August 10, 2014:
Even as JAC constituted against the murder of Lourembam Ranjita of Yairipok has demanded severe punishment to the perpetrator(s), wife of a suspect, who is currently lodged in police custody, has rejected the allegation that her husband was involved in the case.
It may be mentioned that Laishram Ibomcha of Yairipok Ataobung bore the brunt of 'mob justice' as his house and brick factory was burnt down by an irate mob on August 6 on the charge that he was the murderer of the 33-year-old housewife.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, JAC Co-Convenor Kh Arunkumar said that Ranjita's body was claimed by JAC and family on August 6 after the Chief Minister assured them to punish the culprit the previous day.
Alleging that Laishram Ibomcha was involved in other past assault and rape cases as well, Arunkumar demanded the authority concerned to punish him for his misdeeds.
On the other hand, in another press conference held at Manipur Press Club, accused Laishram Ibomcha's wife, Laishram Bina rejected the allegation that her husband had murdered Ranjita.
However, he sought proper investigation into the incident so that the truth is brought to light.
Bina said that she and her family do not have any problem in awarding befitting punishment to Ibomcha if he is found guilty.
However, it was not desirable to give untold hardships to Ibomcha and his family by burning down house and brick factory before he was proved guilty, Bina lamented.
Expressing his belief that her husband was not involved in the murder of Ranjita, Bina also urged the authority concerned to find out the truth at the earliest.
