MKS-Lungnila Elizabeth meritorious award

Altogether, 408 students were honoured with the first MKS-Lungnila Elizabeth Meritorious Award 2012 today at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School's Auditorium, Senapati headquarters.
The award ceremony was organised by the Maramliu Karalimei Swijoikong (MKS), a Maram students' union, in the fond memory of Baby Lungnila Elizabeth , who was found brutally murdered days after being held hostage in 2003. Highest marks scorers of Class X and XII exams conducted by BOSEM, COHSEM, CBSE and rank holders of examinations conducted by Manipur University were feted with the award.
The award distribution function was graced by SDO of Tadubi, P Rang Peter as the chief guest while Rev Fr William Nepuni said the invocation.
Significantly, the gatherings also paid floral tribute to the portrait of Lungnila Elizabeth.
Proposing the welcome address, President of Maramliu Karalimei Swijoikang (Maram Students' Union) Pungdi P Celestine said to build the legacy of 'forgiveness' and 'compassion' Lungnila passed away in her 8th year.
He added that the MKS is committed to further Baby Lungnila's values, especially for the next generation.
The MKS wishes to associate Lungnila Elizabeth's indelible mark in the institution of MKS Meritorious Award and to recognise and reward outstanding talents of the students in her profound memory.
The day was also marked by plantation of tree saplings within the campus of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Senapati.
Power Dept employees stage sit-in-protest Lamka, Aug 10: In protest against the attack on its office on August 9 evening by an irate mob, employees of the electricity department staged a sit-in protest in Churachandpur district headquarters Lamka today.
The people got frustrated when there was a power cut on that evening when local favourite M.C Mary Kom playing in the semi final of the 51 kg bout in the ongoing Olympics.
The people turned mob and started ransacking the Churachandpur Electricity department office at Tuibuong, located about a km away from the district police station.
The angry people swarmed towards the electricity office and started attacking the office between 6: 15 pm to 7 pm.
They were frustrated as their long wait to watch the semifinal of the 51 kg category of boxing played between local favourite MC Mary Kom and Nicolas Adams was not fulfilled as the power supply played a spoilsport.
The mob broke the keys of every room and turned their ire on the furniture, chairs , iron cupboards which contained files and ledgers .
Most of the tables and chairs were damaged while keys of some iron chest were broken and were pushed down on the floor Window panes of the office were smashed and the frame were also pulled out with files spread on the floor of the office buildings and things became a jumbled-set.
Earlier on Friday morning, the employees tried to sit near the Churachandpur district police station but they were dispersed by the police as they failed to obtain the prior permission of the district deputy commissioner.
Speaking to the media, executive engineer of the electricity office Tunzalian said they were blamed for the failure of the power supply which was not in their control.
