IMA conducts sensitisation program on violence against health care providers

Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch organised a sensitisation program on the violence against health care providers and institutions today afternoon at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat through a panel discussion on the topic, "The Supreme Sacrifice of Dr Archana Sharma" .
Dr Archana Sharma was an Obstetrician practicing in her own hospital at Rajasthan.
She committed suicide on the March 29 2022, following a non bailable FIR lodged against her by the husband of a patient who expired due to postpartum haemorrhage following caesarean section at her hospital.
This was a result of undue pressure by the local pressure groups.

IMA Manipur State Branch, feels that Violence against HealthCare Providers and Institutions are also increasing in Manipur.
IMA MSB takes this opportunity to sensitise all stakeholders in our society to help prevent such incidents in our state, said a statement issued IMA MSB.
Panelists including Dr N Subodha (IOGS President), Babloo Loitongbam, (Director, Human Rights Alert), Khuraijam Athouba (VP IPSA, Social Activist), Khaidem Mani (Chairperson, Manipur Human Rights Commission), Clay Khongsai (IPS, ADGP Trg/LO, Manipur Police), Ningthoukhongjam Ibungochoubi Singh (Executive Editor, Manipur Mail) which represented diverse section of the society took part in the panel discussion.
The panel discussion was moderated by Dr James Elangbam, Hony State Secretary of IMA Manipur State Branch.
The purpose of the discussion was to bring a solution to help reduce or stop Violence against Healthcare providers and institutions by seeking valuable suggestion from the learned panel.
The discussion brought out lot of positive feedbacks and suggestions from all the panelists and emphasised on improving Dr-Patient relationship, developing soft skills of healthcare providers, creating media-cells and Public relation cells in all hospitals and clinics to help develop positive media vibes, liaising with the police department, the Human rights and Civil society organisation to help bring a change in the healthcare scenario of Manipur.
The discussion was preceded by a keynote address by the president of IMA Manipur State Branch, Dr Jugindra Sorokhaibam.
