'Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day' observed

As observed across the globe to raise awareness about the importance of iodine in maintaining good health and the consequences of iodine deficiency, District Health Society Bishnupur observed "Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day, 2024" today.
The event held at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Bishnupur was grace by CMO Bishnupur, Dr L Raichandra Singh as chief guest, Headmistress KGBV, Swamita Kumam as functional president and District Nodal Officer of RBSK/RKSK, Dr Ksh Umananda Singh and Dr Johnson Moirangthem, Nodal Officer, Health & Wealthness as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Dr Johnson Moirangthem stressed on the importance of iodine in the human body.
CMO Bishnupur, L Raichandra stated that iodine deficiency leads to various diseases.
He continued that various steps have been taken to combat iodine deficiency disease, including awareness programmes.
In India, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, being the nodal cfficer launched "Iodine Deficiency Disorder Control Program" in 1992 to keep iodine deficiency below 5% and set the goal of 100% use of iodine in every household of the nation.
Therefore, to prevent iodine deficiency, we must eat a more iodine rich diet, using proper iodised salt, added L Raichandra.
As part of the event, an interaction programme with students and a Spot Quiz competition on the topics relating to iodine was also held and the students were later felicitated with special gifts.
