Foundation stone laid for life-size figure of Major Chongtha Mia at Tripura

Foundation stone to build a life- size statue of Major Chongtha Mia, who had led a group of army in Anglo-Manipur War 1891, was laid at Chongtha Mia Memorial Complex which is located some 15 Km south of Agartala at Naran Khamar Meitei village.
Chongtha Mia Trust organized the foundation stone laying function since 8 am while president IPSA, Konthoujom Joychandra laid the foundation stone in compliance with all the required religious procedures.
Speaking at the occasion, Joychandra said that we should remember the priceless contribution made by our brave forefathers in the Anglo-Manipur War 1891 including the sacrifice made by Major Chongtha Mia.
He further said that a life-size figure of Major Chongtha Mia measuring 6 ft in height will be installed at Naran Khamar on January 17 with the combined effort of Chongtha Mia Trust and Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipur War 1891.The statue is nearing completion in Manipur, he said and maintained it will be installed with proper fencing.
The inaugural function to unveil the statue will be graced by many distinguised personalities including ministers from Manipur, he added.
Today's function was attended by president Chongtha Mia Trust, Tripura Gurumayum Nitai Sharma; vice-president G Gourhari Sharma; Secretary (Administration) IPSA W Guneswor; member Ng Iboyaima Mangang and RK Tarunjit.
