Imphal, September 09 2024:
Manipur State Council Communist Party of India (MSC/ CPI) has strongly condemned the crackdown by security forces on students taking out a "peaceful rally towards the Raj Bhavan" today under the banner of "Save Manipur" .
A press release issued by M Joykumar Luwang, assistant secretary, MSC/CPI said that the security forces fired numerous tear gas shells at the students and allegedly tortured them thereby leaving numerous students with injuries.
Under the Indian Constitution, people have the right to take out a peaceful rally to air their grievances or demands.
However, instead of tackling the situation appropriately, the State administration reacted very aggressively and left the people feeling "terrorized", claimed MSC/CPI.
Stating that students are an astute group of people, MSC/CPI maintained that they were merely exercising their democratic right and there is no question of them violating any laws.
On another note, MSC/CPI also commented on the submission of a memorandum to the Manipur Governor by the Chief Minister and 29 MLAs yesterday.
It claimed that a group of people who hold the reins of the State Government submitting the memorandum to the Governor is merely an act of pulling the wool over the public's eye.
Asserting that the people are not impressed by such frequent "drama", MSC/CPI urged the State legislators to knock on the Prime Minister's door.
