Imphal, September 08 2023: Denouncing the inaction and complete silence of both the Central Government and the State Government in the face of relentless attacks by Kuki militants upon Meiteis, a large number of people burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda at Kyamgei Pal Ahanbi today.

Speaking to media persons, Peace and Integrity Committee (PIC) Kyamgei convenor Chingakham Meghachandra strongly condemned the failure/inability of both the Central Government and the State Government to take up a single step against the relentless attacks by Kukis.

Today too, Kuki militants launched another attack at Pallel which resulted in many casualties.

Pointing out that additional military and paramilitary forces sent to the State have failed to contain the violence, he demanded withdrawal of all these forces.

"We are working to devise a united movement under the banner One Voice, One Manipur.

We must protect our motherland for no one else will volunteer for such a momentous responsibility", Meghachandra said.

On the other hand, womenfolk of Soibam Leikai and Khurai Puthiba burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur President A Sharda Devi today afternoon.

Effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren and BJP Manipur President A Sharda Devi were burnt at Soibam Leikai too by members of Soibam Leikai Awang Meira Paibi Choukhat Thourang Lup after staging a stage a sit-in protest.

Speaking to the media persons after burning the effigies, one Meira Paibi member stated that the protest demonstration was staged to register their resentment against the failure of both the Centre and the State to bring a solution to the 4 months long violence and unrest.

Many people had died, hundreds injured and thousands rendered homeless due to the unrest in the State and it is still continuing, she pointed out.

She went on to ask why both the Centre and State Government are still unable to control Kuki narco-terrorists who launched another attack at Pallel today too.

Saying that a number of Meira Paibis sustained injuries in a brutal crackdown by AR troops in the aftermath of the Kuki militants' attack, she condemned the AR action in the strongest terms.

On the other hand, Meira Paibis of Khurai Puthiba Leikai also burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister N.Biren Singh.

The protest, held at Khurai Puthiba Leikai, resonated with resounding slogans such as "Long Live Manipur" and "We Want Peace," while also echoing demands for withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur.

Womenfolk also criticized both the Central and State Governments and accused them of prioritizing political gains over the safety and well-being of Manipur's citizens in this time of crisis.

Restoration of peace should be an urgent priority, they added.

Meira Paibis of Chingarel Tezpur too burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, denouncing the alleged discriminatory attitude of the Government of India towards Meitei community.

Meanwhile, on receiving reports of heavy firing by Kuki militants upon Meitei villages in different parts of the State and brutal crackdown by security forces upon Meira Paibis, a large number of womenfolk came out to streets and staged protest demonstrations.

Movement of private vehicles as well as military vehicles were strictly monitored by the womenfolk who gathered in large numbers at Singjamei Chingamakhong along Imphal-Moreh road, Mayai Lambi road and other roads leading toward the Pallel.
