Imphal, August 08 2024:
The Manipur Pony & Polo Players' Welfare Association (MP&PPWA) has asked the Government and the relevant authority to clarify who is going to look after the ponies which are given shelter at Hapta Kangjeibung.
In a statement, the Association said that the ponies were brought to Hapta Kangjeibung after Chief Minister N Biren gave his consent to the undertaking.
It claimed that the Veterinary Department and the Pony Society didn't come to Hapta Kangjeibung even once to inquire about the ponies.
Asking how a report on the ponies at Hapta Kangjeibung was tabled in the ongoing Assembly session without assessing their condition, the MP&PPWA claimed that the Veterinary Department has only sent 51 stacks of straw and 32 bags of feed which ponies don't eat since the ponies were brought at Hapta Kangjeibung.
Stating that they didn't get any assistance from the Government from July 5 onwards, MP&PPWA added that they and well wishers have been taking care of the ponies till today.
It also refuted the claim that the Veterinary Department provided feed for the ponies and a vehicle to transport the feed.
Stop rearing ponies on paper to make some easy money, the Association asserted and added that Veterinary Department also didn't organise any health camp for the ponies from July 5 onwards.
Continuing that tabling a factually incorrect statement data on pony conservation work on the floor of the Assembly was unfortunate, MP&PPWA asked the Veterinary Department to clarify on the issue.
It also appealed to all the relevant authorities to assess the ground situation on how these ponies are being taken care of.
Further asking the Veterinary Department to issue a white paper of what was said about the condition of the ponies by August 11, the Association said that the ponies will no longer be kept at Hapta Kangjeibung if their demand is not entertained and the Veterinary Department and the Pony Society has to take responsibility for all eventuality.
