SHGs showcase rural artisanal goods at 17th SARAS Fair

For the first time in a hill district, the Manipur State Rural livelihoods Mission (MSRLM), Department of RD&PR organized the 17th Regional SARAS Fair 2024 at Sanyii Dahrii Memorial Sports Complex, Khabung Karong, Senapati.
The SARAS Fair was kicked off on November 5 and will continue till November 12.The Sale of Articles of Rural Artisans (SARAS) Mela 2024 was inaugurated by MH Khan, Special Chief Secretary RD&PR as the chief guest and Mamoni Doley, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering on the inaugural day, MH Khan said that SARAS Fair has created a convergent marketing platform for rural artisans to meet their customers and provide holistic marketing gateway for rural artisans.
He also said that SARAS Fair plays an active role in bring transformation in the Indian rural artisans' livelihood by generating income and enhancing the purchasing power of the rural communities.
Meanwhile, DC Mamoni Doley touched on women empowerment and stressed on the importance of SARAS.
She also thanked the programme organizer for conducting the event in Senapati district making it the first in a hill district.
Many SHGs from Senapati, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Tamenglong, Noney, Imphal West, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi are participating in the ongoing 17th Regional SARAS Fair.
Altogether, 83 stalls were set up with the participation of 166 SHG women.
The SHG products consist of handloom and handicrafts, vegetables and many food items.
The programme was attended by Adahrii Maheo, MCS, CEO/ADC Senapati; PP Ronald, Project Director, DRDA Senapati; SDOs, DLOs, CSOs and staff of DRDA and MSRLM.
