413 encroachers evicted : Forest Minister

The State Government has evicted 413 encroachers so far, said Forest and Environment Minister Th Biswajit today.
Responding to cut motions raised by Congress MLAs Th Lokeshwar and Surjakumar Okram today, the Minister continued that the Government has identified 29,208 encroachers and notice has been sent to 90 per cent of them.
Saying that there is delay in evictions due to the opposition against the drives to protect forest and protected lands using violence, he added that a forest conservation drive has been going on.
He further said that the Government has destroyed 19, 315.6 acres of poppy plantations.
Continuing that the Government has also started providing Rs 50,000 to 1,00,000 to villages based on the number of households under Integrated Forest Management Scheme to conserve forest, he added that the Forest and the Revenue Departments have also completed the survey of Langol Extension Reserve Forest, Heingang Reserve Forest, Khema Reserve Forest, Chingkheiching Reserve Forest , Khumanthouching Reserve Forest, Laimaton Reserve Forest and Konung Reserve Forest.
He further said that demarcation of Kharam Protected Forest, Sikhong Ningel Protected Forest, Maibam Lotpa Ching Protected Forest and several other protected forests has been completed after a joint survey.
