Imphal, July 06 2013 :
A skeleton, suspected to be that of a Japanese soldier killed during the Second World War, was found while digging the earth at Phubala village in Bishnupur district yesterday.
It may be noted here that many parts of Bishnupur district including Moirang and Phubala had witnessed fierce battle between the Japanese and the British forces during the Second World War.
A war memorial has been constructed in memory of the slain Japanese soldiers at Maiba Lokpa Ching, which is about 10 km to the north of Phubala.
It is said that though the skeleton recovered is believed to be that of a Japanese soldier, it would be first sent for examination by the experts for confirmation.
