KVK Chandel hosts field day cum interaction programme

A field day on Rapeseed-Mustard var.
TS-38 under Cluster Front Line Demonstration on Oilseeds was held today at Unapal village, Chandel district, organised by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel.
The objective of field day was to showcase the improved technology and the importance of utilizing the rice fallows to the farmers for enhancing the production, productivity and economics as well as increasing the cropping intensity.
Addressing the occasion, Dr Khumlo Levish SMS (Agronomy), ICAR-KVK Chandel highlighted the performance of the Toria var.
TS-38 which is a high yielding with the duration of 90-95 days, that is suitable in adverse drought and paddy-toria cropping sequence under late sown condition (up to 1st week of December) and Toria var.
TS-38 is also tolerant to white rust and altemaria blight.
This variety can yield upto 12 q/ha if full package of practices is followed.
Dr Khumlo Levishalso added that Cluster Frontline Demonstration on oilseeds is a unique approach under the National Food Security Mission to make India self-sufficient in oil production.
In order to help farmers produce more oils and increase their income, particularly in rice fallow regions, ICAR-KVK Chandel has carried out CFLD on Rabi Oilseed in several villages around the Chandel district, including Unapal village, said Dr Khumlo.
Dr A Ameeta Devi, Sr Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK Chandel also urged the farmers to utilize the rice fallow areas to grow more Oilseed crops like Rapeseed-Mustard to enhance the production, productivity and income of the formers.
She also appreciates the farmers' effort, their sincerity, handwork and their contributions in the agriculture sector.
The Unapal Village Authority expresses gratitude and appreciation for ICAR-KVK Chandel's efforts.
The Scientist-Farmer interaction sessions was also conducted and attended by the experts of ICAR-KVK Chandel, Dr K Sonamani Singh, SMS (SWCE), Ts Leenda Monsang, SMS (Plant Breeding)and Ps Lavid Anal, SMS (Horticulture) .
The field visit was organised for showcasing the technology which was witnessed by 34 farmers along with the staff of ICAR-KVK Chandel.
