Imphal, February 06 2021:
The Tousem Headquarters Students' Union (THSU) has urged the State Government to resolve the boundary dispute between Jiribam and Tamenglong districts at the earliest.
A press release issued by the student union asserted that the people of Tousem sub division respect the rights of the newly created Jiribam district to exist as a full fledged one but that should never be at the cost of disintegrating the old Tamenglong district.
"When the past generations have learnt to coexist in harmony irrespective of community, the greed of present generation to acquire adjacent land has brought acute disharmony," THSU claimed and added that no community however larger should impose its will upon the minor community.
Urging all concerned to respect the land boundaries which have been demarcated, the student union said, "Jiribam district should keep the land that belonged to it and not 'encroach' upon others".
The police personnel who supposedly should be safeguarding the minority are working in connivance with the CSOs in 'invading' the bordering villages of Tousem subdivision, the union claimed and added that the recent event at Khedagar Khasi village of the sub division under Tamenglong which was allegedly ignited by encroachment was uncalled for.
