Imphal, December 05 2024:
Various organisations from Mayang Imphal Bengoon have demanded public disclosure of the SDC stationed at Imphal West DC office, who was involved in the arrest of 29 wage earners on suspicion of being Bangladeshi nationals despite possessing Aadhaar cards issued by the Assam government, calling for the immediate dismissal of the SDC from service.
In joint press conference held at Mayang Imphal Bengoon on Thursday, Joint Youth Development Committee, Chesam Achouba clarified that the 29 arrested on December 2 for violating guidelines of the Inner Line Permit System (ILP), had been working in a bakery, and residing at Mayang Imphal Ben goon for the past 5 to 6 years.
During regular ILP checks by the Mayang Imphal police, their documents were found to be valid, he said and expressed concern that, despite possessing documents issued by the authorities, 29 have been accused as illegal residents, and Meitei-Pangal community branded as facilitator of Bangladeshi nationals' entry into the state.
Achouba also condemned despatch of the arrested to Assam without proper verification, and posed as to why no legal action had been taken against them if they were indeed from Bangladesh and had entered the state illegally.
The media briefing also had representatives of All Mayang Imphal Muslim Youth Development Organisation, Heibimak-hong Development Club, Rural Socio Economic Development Organisation, Like Minded Youth Development Organisation and Great Star Club.
