Panic over unexploded mortar shell in Oksubung

Imphal, September 05 2023: Panic set in amongst the people after an unexploded mortar shell was found at Moirang Oksubung sector of the Tidim road on Tuesday morning.

According to a report, the mortar shell was found on the eastern side of Tidim road around 9.50 am Tuesday.

On receiving news of the discovery, a team of Moirang PS arrived at the scene and set up a security perimeter.

Shortly after, the bomb expert team of Manipur Police arrived at the location and safely retrieved the explosive.

Meanwhile, a report by Bishnupur District Police informed that on receipt of discovery of a bomb near Hotel Elegance in Moirang Oksubung Makha Leikai at around 6.42 am Tuesday, a team of Moirang PS rushed to the location and cordoned off the scene.

A preliminary inspection found that the bomb was an iED Dropper Shell but no evidence of an explosion or blast was found nearby.

Thus, it is highly likely that someone had planted the bomb in the location.

The bomb was later retrieved by Moirang PS and Bomb Disposal squad and safely detonated at a paddy filed in Tronglaobi Meikambi Mamang at around 12.28 pm Tuesday.
