Transport Minister assures to look into flight fare

Transport Minister Khashim Vashum has assured that the State Government would consider to get flight fares reduced under Viability Gap Funding (VGF) for flights operating to and from Imphal.
The Transport Minister gave this assurance in response to a cut motion moved by Congress MLA Okram Surjakumar in the State Assembly today.
Replying to the cut motion, Transport Minister Khashim Vashum said that fares of flights operating to and from Imphal rose substantially after the violent crisis broke out.
Taking serious note of the sharp rise in flight fares, Chief Minister N Biren wrote to the Civil Aviation Ministry on November 30, 2023 to look into the matter, Khashim Vashum said.
On bus service for students, Khashim Vashum said that bus transportation service was launched on five routes in October 2023 including Imphal-Kakching Lamkhai, Imphal-Yairipok-Imphal, Imphal-Lamlai-Imphal and Imphal-Mayang Imphal routes and these bus services reach or pass through Manipur University as well as Dhanamanjuri University.
The Government has also been considering to launch bus services which would reach Kakching and Serou.
From April, 2024 till date, the Transport Department has managed to collect a revenue of Rs 17.17 crore, he said.
