Imphal, October 04 2013 :
To protest Government of Manipur's alleged non-compliance to existing rules and regulations pertaining to promotion of undergraduate/primary teachers to the graduate teacher status Demand Committee for the Promotion/Upgradation of Undergraduate and Primary Teachers to Graduate Post today announced that its members would resort to fast-unto-death agitation from october 16 onwards.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Committee general secretary T Khogendro said for the last 30 years undergraduate and primary teachers are being deprived of their legitimate rights for promotion to graduate teachers inspite of existing RRs for graduate teachers clearly defining that 50 percent should be for direct recruitment and the remaining percentage on promotion basis.
Violating existing RRs hundreds of graduate teachers have already been directly recruited in 1996 and 2007, highlighted the secretary who maintained that to protest such discriminatory policy of the Government, the Committee members resolved to pursue their case through democratic mode of agitation.
In addition to the deprived teachers regularly airing their grievances to the Education Minister and Education Department authorities since 2007 through AMESTA and AMSSTA, a Demand Committee delegation reportedly called on the Education Minister on september 6 to discuss the matter at the latter's office chamber wherein Principal Secretary (Education) and the Director of Education (S) were also present.
In the presence of the Minister, the Director verbally assured the delegation that promotion process shall be completed within September month, Khogendro informed expressing strong resentment that inspite of days into the new month there is no sign that the Director's assurance would actually materialise.
Pointing out that many of their colleagues had retired from service at the same position/designation they started to serve the student community, he affirmed that there is no question of retreating from the agitation plan if the Government do not initiate relevant promotion process within october 15 .
