Imphal, June 04 2011:
Union Ministry of Home Affairs has rejected 20 State police personnel whose names have been recommended by the State Government for Gallantry Award without assigning any reasons.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a highly placed source said that Manipur Police used to receive the highest number of Gallentry Awards every year for their role in controlling law and order situation in the State.
But after the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident, it is for the first time that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has rejected all the recommendations for Gallentry Award from the side of the State Police without assigning any reason.
After the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident, only one MPS officer had been decorated with Police Medal and the number of Gallentry Award recipients too has come down, the source disclosed, while pointing out that there have also been allegations that State police personnel have been trying to get Gallentry Awards and promotion in service through fake encounters.
Among the names of the police personnel whose recommendations for Gallantry Awards have been rejected, there are many who have been honoured with Gallantry medals in the past, the source added.
