Imphal, December 03 2011:
Objecting to the visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Imphal which has come about despite the failure of the government of India to give an official clarification over 'Supra-state body' proposal to NSCN (IM) and to take up necessary remedial measures to mitigate the suffering of the people during the nearly four months long economic blockade, seven members of MPP Youth Front staged a nude protest here today.
As announced earlier through media of dishonouring Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to Manipur in the event of failing to give an official clarification over the controversial 'Supra-state body' proposal, seven functionaries of MPP Youth Front disrobed themselves and launched a nude protest atop the office building of the party behind Mapal Kangjeibung at around 1.30 pm today.
Talking to mediapersons ahead of the nude protest demonstration, President of MPP Youth Front Mutum Maniton Mangang pointed out that MPP had already submitted memorandum to the Prime Minister demanding an official clarification over the 'Supra-state body' proposal prior to coming down to Imphal, but the government of India has not honoured the wishes of the people.
The denial of Union Home Minister over the proposal which the people of Manipur got to hear indirectly from Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh is not acceptable, Maniton asserted.
Contd.
He clarified that there is no objection to the visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and there is no anti-Indian feelings, but MPP Youth Front cannot honour their visit and roll out red carpet because they do not understand the aspiration of the people in the North East including Manipur and the government of India always neglect the issues of Manipur.
Remaining quiet when the people of Manipur were suffering from protracted economic blockade along the National Highways is nothing but negligence on the part of UPA government.
Moreover, the government of India has been playing divide and rule policy among people of the North East by setting one community against another.
It is to denounce such discriminatory attitude of the government of India that the nude protest was staged, Maniton explained.
