TKLI demands Judicial probe on Ukhrul incident

The Tanglhul Katamano Long Imphal (TKLI) while strongly condemning the August 30 Ukhrul incident demanded immediate suspension of Ukhrul District Magistrate/ Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police Ukhrul.
It also demanded Home Minister Gaikhangam to step down from his post for his failure of sincerity in addressing the situation, asserted the President of TKLI in a press statement.
TKLI termed the indiscriminate firing by the State security forces during the peace rally as "brutal and unwarrant" .
It stated that the compensation offered over the loss of two individuals and to the injured civilians was even more insulting, inadequate and added that without addressing the perennial issues, such quick-fixing offer will not bring any solution.
The statement alleged that the 48 day long imposition of Section 144 CrPC is a communal driven attempt to control militarily and administer without any consideration for human rights.
TKLI alleged that the Home Minister is responsible for the present chaos in Ukhrul Town and expressed disappointment on the failure of Home Minister Gaikhangam to visit the District even once to allay the fear and concerns of the public.
The statement also alleged the Home Minister for promoting a divisive and communal politics in the past as well for his personal gain as as to obtain favour from a particular community and the recent violent incident showed his leadership incapability.
Therefore, Home Minister Gaikhangam must immediately step down from his post, the statement further said.
