Imp/Thb/Spi, July 03 2022: In line with the observation of 73rd Van Mahotsav 2022, Liyai Range, Senapati Forest Division organised a tree plantation drive at Dziiduri Eco-Tourism Park and Purul village today.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with Khumai (Tunggam Union), Hiiduna Council and Hills Eco-Adventure Tourism, Manipur (HEAT-M) .

More than 7000 saplings of Cassia, Gulmohar, Ceylon Ironwood, Walnut, Oak, Alder, and Camphor, etc were planted by the participants in synergy with the Government vision of planting 75 lakh saplings by August to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Speaking on the occasion, Kho Peter, president of Khumai (Tunggam) Union stated that the present generation are overstimulated by smartphones and computer screens but have lost connection with mother nature.

"We ought to make a concerted effort to reconnect with her by restoring her health through community tree plantation," he added.

Daniel Rona, a leader of Hiiduna Council; Traole Rai, president HEAT-M; Benjamin Ziipao, Range officer, Liyai Range also spoke on the occasion.

As part of the observance of 73rd Van Mahotsav, teachers and students of Mahmood English High School, Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai also carried out a tree plantation drive along Nganglou road and around the school campus yesterday.

The drive conducted under the supervision of Thoubal Forest Division was participated by Thoubal Forest Range, Deputy Ranger, Md Aslam and Pallel Forest Beat Office, Beat Officer, Md Sallaodin.

At the event, Md Aslam appreciated the students and teachers for planting tree saplings in connection with the 73rd Van Mahotsav celebration.

Moreover, in line with the celebration of Van Mahotsav, Forest Minister Thongam Biswajit led a tree plantation drive on July 1 at Gwaltabi area under Khamellok Gwaltabi Reserved Forest.

The programme organised by Central Forest Division on the theme, "Let us Plant a Tree, Let us Plant a hope" .

It was attended by PCCF, Ak Joshi; Central Forest Division DFO, Rk Amarjit; Kangpokpi Forest Division DFO, Ganesh; local clubs and villagers.

Similarly, Divisional Forest Office Thoubal also organised a mass tree plantation drive on July 1 at Thoubal Khunou to celebrate Van Mahotsav.

It was participated by DFO Thoubal, Th Lokendro; Thoubal Range RO, S Samungou; RO Head Quarter, N Dipa Devi; Deputy Ranger, Md Aslam; Mayai Keithel Beat Office BO, L Dhananjoy and Thoubal Municipal Council Ward no 18 caretaker Councillor, M Ravi. Representatives of AMSU, DESAM, AISF, Pioneer Unify Club Thoubal Khunou, MEBC Church and villagers of the area also took part in the drive.
