Imphal, June 03 2011:
Contractor Samurailatpam Sukdev has denied his involvement in assaulting workers engaged in construction of Maharaj Gambhir Singh Memorial Complex at Canchipur.
Speaking to media persons at his Keishampat residence today, Samurailatpam Sukdev rejected the allegations made by MLA Okram Joy and his son Santa as baseless.
Sukdev claimed that he received contract from the relevant department for construction of compound wall for a length of about 150 feet and that he had completed the same work.
The contract work for the whole memorial complex was issued in the name of Special Contractor S Aring.
"I got sub contract for construction of compound wall and the statue", Sukdev said.
Samurailatpam Sukdev said that he lobbied hard for these contract works spending a long time but MLA Okram Joy maintained that no one should take these contract works.
"Recently, the department informed me to construct compound wall for a length of 350 feet but the same work was prohibited since February this year", Sukdev said.
"Following the MLA's intimation that the contract work belonged to PREPAK, I stopped going to the work site for a long time.
Given this situation, how could I assault the workers ?" Samurailatpam Sukdev asked.
He further conveyed that he was summoned to Singjamei police station where baseless allegations like assaulting workers and vandalising compound wall were found charged against him.
