DESAM Foundation Day held

Imphal, January 03 2014 : The 12th foundation day of DESAM was observed today at GP Women's College here with Education Minister M Okendro as chief guest and Desam president WM Islauddin as functional president.

Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra, Dean of Students' Welfare MU Prof RK Hemakumar and GP Women's College Principal Y Chandrasakhi were also seated on the dais as guests of honour.

On the occasion of the foundation day anniversary, Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Award was conferred to Ramlal Paul Hr Sec School Principal Ninthoukhongjam Ibechaobi, Amom Kokil Singh of Wangoo High School and Headmaster in-charge of Samusang Shantipur Primary School K Jayenta Singh.

Moreover, E Khogen of Wabagai High School was presented special prizes for his dedication in the teaching profession.

The foundation day function also featured a blood donation camp where Desam volunteers donated blood.

Capitalising on the occasion, Desam submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister.

Speaking at the function, Okendro said that even as some change have been seen in the education system of Manipur, it still demands greater efforts to bring about quality education in the State.

The Government would now monitor private schools too under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.

Any private schools found violating RTE Act guidelines would face penalty even to the extent of cancelling recognition given to them, Okendro stated.
