Voluntary blood donation camp held

As a part of the ongoing observance of No-Replacement Month, a voluntary blood donation (VBD) camp was organised at Manipur Police Training College, Pangei today wherein a total of 123 volunteers donated blood.
As stated in its press release, the VBD camp was organised by Association of Voluntary Blood Donors, Manipur, along with MPTC, Pangei and Department of Immuno-Haematology & Blood Transfusion, RIMS with the sponsorship from Manipur AIDS Control Society and State Blood Transfusion Council-Manipur.
Majority of the donors were new recruits of 8th Batch, Manipur women police constables and all women 9-Indian Reserve Battalion, Mahila Battalion who are undergoing training at MPTC, Pangei, it said.
The release further said that out of the 123 donors, 110 were female donors which is the highest and record-brreaking in terms of donation by female donors in a single camp in the history of voluntary blood donation movement in Manipur.
The Association is observing No-Replacement Month at the Govt hospitals of Manipur viz RIMS, JNIMS and other District Hospitals starting from June 14 last till July 13 in connection with the World Blood Donor Day (June 14, 2013) under the theme "Give the Gift of Life: Donate Blood", it stated.
It then said that the Association is targeting around 1600-2000 blood units during the Month in the hospitals to meet the requirement and also to enhance VBD movement in the State.
It is holding 12 motivational campaigns and 20 camps in the ensuing Month.
This is the first ever attempt being made at these Govt hospitals that its blood banks will not ask the patients to replace unit(s) of blood utilized for their near and dear ones in the ensuing month.
The Association thanked all the lionhearted life savers of MPTC and other volunteers who have donated Gift of Life.
Series of campaigns and camps will follow in the ensuing Month, the release stated.
