Imphal, February 02 2016:
With the State Government unable to provide land for construction of a National Sports University, an amount of Rs 100 crore sanctioned by the Government of India for the same purpose has been wasted, asserted BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba.
Chaoba was speaking at a felicitation function of newly elected Councillors of Sikhong Sekmai Municipal Council at the party office at Nityaipat Chuthek here today.
The elected representatives felicitated today included independent Councillors S Roma, Y Indrajit, Th Devita, BJP Councillors Md Tolen and M Santosh .
After declaring that the independent Councillors have joined BJP, Chaoba decried that the State Government is still unable to provide land required for the National Sports University even though it has been over one year since the Government of India sanctioned Rs 100 crore for construction of the university.
Accusing Chief Minister O Ibobi of selecting a controversial site for the sports university in his personal interest, no additional amount can be incorporated in the Union budget which would be tabled in the Parliament soon as construction work has not begun till date, said Chaoba.
The Congress Government should bear responsibility for missing this opportunity.
Congress was in power in the Nambol Municipal Council for the past 15 years but people of Nambol area still have no access to potable water.
"Subsequently, I went to Delhi and urged the Union Water Resources Minister to take up adequate water supply schemes.
Subsequently, the Union Water Resources Minister sanctioned Rs 35 crore", Chaoba claimed.
More and more people in Manipur are eager to elect BJP to power following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's incessant efforts to bring rapid development in the entire North East region.
BJP MLA Th Bishwajit said that he appealed to Union Surface and Transport Ministry Nitin Gadkari to develop Imphal-Moreh highway as a standard highway.
In response, Nitin Gadkari assured Rs 200 crore for development of the same highway.
Moreover, he approved a proposal to upgrade Imphal-Thoubal-Yairipok road to the status of a National highway.
He claimed that BJP would assume power in Sikhong-Sekmai Municipal Council as many independent Councillors have joined BJP.
