Imphal, January 02 2014:
Employees of Public Health Centre, Khumbong today staged sit-in-protest to denounce alleged extortion notice served by an armed group.
Some of the employees told The Sangai Express at the protest site that two unknown persons showed up at the Centre recently and demanding that each of the employees cough up Rs 10,000 also insisted that the collected amount should be handed over within December 31, 2013 .
Confiding that the two individuals were told that the matter would be discussed by the staff members, an employee said no complaint has been lodged to the police till date.
Expressing that the monetary demand by the armed group has been causing insecure feeling amongst the staff and seriously affecting normal functions of the medical centre, the employee said the situation is even more serious for those who work in night shift.
Further stating that the employees serving the people round the clock could not afford to pay such a huge amount, the employees fervently appealed to the armed group concerned to withdraw the demand.
