While stating that abolition of Additional English is a welcome step, the Council of Tribal Languages and Literature Societies, Manipur (CTLLS) said that temporary alternative means should be arranged first to the linguistic minorities whose mother tongues are yet to be approved for introduction in the school education system so that opportunities to the students of linguistic minorities are not deprived of.
Maintaining that the culture of Additional English in education system and State apathy of tribal languages in Manipur are causing great damages to the mother tongue education in both the valley and hill of the State, the CTLLS statement issued by its chairman, Ragongning Gangmei appealed all concerned to support the BOSEM in its efforts to abolish Additional English from the Education system in Manipur in the interest of all indigenous people of the State.
In the attempt to phase out the evil culture of Additional English, priority should also be given for approval of tribal dialects like Zeme, Simte, Maram, Inpui, Maring, Anal, Chiru, Kharam, etc for introduction in school system on priority basis, the CTLLS urged.
It further stated that the State apathy of tribal languages and dialects is revealed in the State budgets of Education dept, BOSEM and COHSEM where there is no fund at all for tribal languages in the budgets.
