The State Cabinet has decided to award Rs 10 lakhs to the 24 police personnel, led by an Inspector, responsible for the high profile drug seizure at Pallel on February 24 this year.
The Cabinet also discussed the likely visit of President Pranab Mukherjee to Imphal on April 15. Speaking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that the Cabinet today took the decision to extend financial incentives to the Thoubal police commandos for their commendable job in seizing the drugs worth around Rs 24 crore at Pallel.
Gaikhangam said that the State Government has already written to the Home Ministry to let the CBI investigate the case.
The matter has also been highlighted to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, said Gaikhangam and added that it will also be brought to the notice of UPA Chairperson and AICC president, Sonia Gandhi.
Five persons were detained at Pallel in connection with the case while the sixth accused was rounded up two days later.
Along with the opening of Manipur High Court, the Cabinet today decided to create one more post of Additional Attorney General as well as to appoint four public prosecutors.
