MLA Erabot detains 16 vehicles from excavating land in Reserve Forest area

Imphal, February 01 2013: MLA of Wankhei A/C Y Erabot detained 16 vehicles which were found excavating land from reserve forest area in Mantripukhri before being handed over to the forest officials and the Heingang Police Station.

The incident took place at around 1 pm today in the reserve forest area at Mantripukhri which is located just adjacent to Lamlongei Napet Loukol.

The 16 detained vehicles included six Excavators and 10 Tata Tippers.

The process of excavating the land from the reserve land area was being carried out by the Lamlomngei Development Committee.

The news of the excavation process was reported by the locals to their MLA following which the MLA himself came to the spot this morning.

As soon as MLA Y Erabot arrived, he asked the persons involved in unearthing the area whether they have got any permission to excavate the forest area.

With none replying to his enquiry, MLA Y Erabot snatched away the keys of all the 16 vehicles from the drivers.

The MLA later called the officials of the Forest department and handed the keys to them.

Talking to media persons on the occasion, MLA Erabot said that stringent action should be taken up against anyone involved in excavating land from reserve forest areas.

Forest Ranger Y Gojendro, also arrived at the scene.
