Treatment plant complete, but pumps not yet ready

Even though a trial run of the treatment plant of Imphal Sewerage Project constructed at Lamphelpat was conducted last year, four pumps of Shamumakhong, Keishampat and Langol pumping stations have not yet reached working condition .
Construction work of the treatment plant of 27 MLD capacity was completed last year and a trial run was done in October .
Notably, the Imphal Sewerage Project was taken up with assistance from the Government of France .
Altogether 14 pumps have been installed at Kangla, Yaiskul, Shamumakhong, Keishampat and Langol stations.
However four pumps; one at Shamumakhong, two at Keishampat and one at Langol, have not yet achieved working condition .
Primary pipeline of length 22.23 Kms and secondary pipeline of length 44 Kms have been constructed.
Toilet outputs of 500 households have been connected to the main sewer pipeline.
However, some pipelines were damaged during the recent earthquake and they are being repaired, informed a well placed source .
It is reported that PHED needs Rs 1960.51 lakh to complete and commission the project .
On the other hand, Additional Chief Secretary (PHED in-charge) Shambhu Singh presided a meeting of the Sewerage and Pollution Abetment of Nambul River Committee on August 29 .
The meeting was attended by officials of PHED, IFCD, MAHUD, LDA and Environment .
The meeting discussed about commissioning Imphal Sewerage Project, eviction of encroachers from Nambul River banks and repairing drains which fall into Nambul River .
IFCD officials were asked to identify all the encroachers on Nambul River between Keishamthong and Heirangoithong starting from tomorrow .
The meeting further decided that PHED, LDA, MAHUD and Environment Department should work together to check siltation on Nambul River bed .
It also decided to rope in local clubs and NGOs for solid waste management at Imphal .
The meeting also discussed about Naga rivulet as well as adoption of newer scientific method for diversion of dirty, polluted water from falling into Nambul River.
