Thoubal/Senapati, July 31 2024:
Despite the launching of various welfare initiatives aimed at improving the condition of Government schools in the State such as School Fagathansi Mission, several Govt schools continue to grapple with a number of issues.
The most common and prominent issue is the shortage of adequate teachers hindering the academic activities compelling the students to stage protest demonstrations at their respective schools demanding to resolve the issue by sending adequate teachers.
Raising a number of demands which are essential for the efficient functioning of the school, a large number of students of Wangjing High School staged a sit-in protest in the school campus today.
The students urged the authorities concerned to appoint adequate teachers in the school and to repair the damage caused by the disastrous hailstorm in May this year.
Further they urged all concerned to refrain from imposing unbearable monetary demands to the school and the teachers so as to let the students study peacefully.
During the protest, placards which read 'Let us study properly without any disturbance', 'Make schools disturbance free zone', 'Address the issue of shortage of teachers and lack of infrastructure' etc and the students chanted similar slogans.

Meanwhile, the Thonglang villagers have sought the attention of the Education Department to provide adequate teachers at Thonglang Govt High School of Thonglang Akutpa village.
Thonglang High School which was established in 1957, was upgraded to a high school in 2012 and the school is among the best performing Government High Schools in the State since the past 3-4 years and the Department of Education (S), Govt of Manipur recently awarded Token of Appreciation to the school in recognition of the school's performance for securing 100 percent pass percentage in the HSLC examinations.
The villagers highlighted that the school has only four Government teachers and the other teachers are being managed by the village authority for the welfare of more than 200 students in the school which is really unfortunate.
In view of the above grave issue, the villagers of Thonglang Akutpa urged the department concerned to address the shortage of teachers in the school at the earliest for its efficient functioning and in the larger interest of the students of the region.
