Sharkapgung Headman demands land compensation

Headman of Sharkaphung village has urged the State Government to compensate the affected villagers of Thoubal Multipurpose project before its inauguration slated to be held next year.
Sharkaphung is one of the affected villages as per the detailed project map and the report issued by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Government of Manipur in 1998, said a press release issued by Headman Wungreikhan Kasar.
An Expert Review Committee consisting of different departments like IFCD, Agriculture, Horticulture, Central Agricultural University, Earth Science Department of Manipur University, ICAR and members of the MDAVO visited the village and assured the people to take up the matter with the appropriate authority of the State Government for early survey of the land but nothing tangible result happened till date, it added.
The Headman added that a large number of village paddy fields lie at the Thoubal river bank which is adjacent to Shangkai and Thawai villages.
Saying that the paddy fields of these two villages had been surveyed and already compensated the headman said that the land and paddy fields of Sharkaphung were left out without giving any reasonable answer by the Government authorities.
