Farmers' training held

The Regional Centre of Organic Farming (RCOF), Imphal conducted a one day training programme for farmers on 'Organic farming' at the assembly hall of village chief, village panchayat Kangvai, Churachandpur on June 29 .
A statement issued by the RCOF, Imphal Assistant Director said 390 villages across the country have been selected to promote organic farming under the 'Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojna', an initiative of the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Government of India to develop village panchayats into model organic villages.
Kangvai village, Churachandpur was selected for the initiative by Lok Sabha (Outer Manipur) MP Thangso Baite.
The training programme was conducted under the supervision of RCOF Scientific Officer Dr Chandra Shekhar and Technical Assistant JB Karmakar.
Resource person of the event Dr Sumarjit Singh, Associate Professor at the Department of Agronomy, Central Agricultural University, Imphal elaborated the basic principal of organic farming and also the intervention and importance of innovative indigenous technical knowledge of local people.
About 52 farmers attended the training programme.
