Cops lend helping hand in dousing fire

Imphal, March 31 2012: Alert locals of Thongjao Chirit Leikai under Waikhong police station averted possible major devastation by putting out a fire suspected to have started from burning of waste materials such as twigs and abandoned paddy stalks.

According to a source, the fire from the nearby paddy field threatened to spread towards the residential area due to swift wind blowing at that time.

However, locals managed to douse the blaze thereby saving precious properties from being reduced to cinders.

A joint team of police led by Waikhong police station OC and 27 Assam Rifles under a Major of the unit also rushed to the site of incident and assisted the locals in completely putting out the fire.

The fire reportedly broke out at around 3.30 pm today.
